Back in Session

My parents have a new tire swing up at their house and the kids have loved swinging on it.  They all continue to love Anya which is great since she just wants to do whatever they are doing.

The kids started back to school a few weeks ago.  Lincoln is in Kindergarten and Kate is in 2nd grade.  They both are loving it so far.  Historically the 1st day of school has been an interesting one in this house.  This year proved to be no different.  But I really tried this year.  In the past, the kids did not have a new outfit for the first day, this year they did.  In the past, I woke up the baby and took them soggy diapers, pj’s and all, into the school to drop Kate off.  This year, every one was up and dressed and looked pretty respectable.  So, I deceived myself into thinking that just because I had to carry Creighton out of the school kicking and screaming the past two years, things were looking up and that would not happen this year.  So, we go to school, we drop Lincoln off in his classroom and he could have cared less that I was leaving, which if you know how shy he can be, is such a huge praise in and of itself.  Then we walked Kate to the gym.  We point her in the right direction and I turn and take Creighton’s hand to leave and it started.  “No, Mom, I wanna stay, I don’t wanna go.”  And then he went completely limp.  So, I’m already holding Anya, so I just keep hold of his hand and he is fixing to have an all out meltdown.  So, I decide, I think I’ll just pick him up, it can’t be that hard to carry him out kicking and screaming.  It’s got to be better than dragging him.  I move Anya to the other side, and scoop up Creighton.  He kicked and screamed the E.N.T.I.R.E. way to the car. Nothing, I do mean nothing screams “You are a great mom” than having that scene go down, except maybe if you add in pj’s and soggy diapers too.  Well, I guess in the end it’s good.  This way, we just get it out and in the open from the beginning.  I am not a perfect Mom.  My children humble me often.  I don’t have it all together.  So, I smiled the whole way out of school, smiled at all the people who commented about my son’s lovely display, and when I got in the car, I started to laugh.  What else can you do?  However, next year, I may not let Creighton in the building.  =)

I thought Creighton would have a hard time without the older two, but he seems to be enjoying his time with Anya.  He and our neighbor girl are having fun playing together as well without all the older kids around.

We celebrated my Mom, Creighton, and Anya’s birthdays with the family.  Kate requested haystacks and a peanut butter and oreo dessert.

Last weekend we spent a fun day at the lake with some good friends.  The kids all learned to ski on the beginner board.  It was a great day with lots of fun, sun, and laughter.  Thanks Ross and Jamie!

Lastly, these two boys make me smile.  They are the best of friends.  They are completely alike and 100% different all at the same time.  It’s going to be fun watching their friendship grow.

Winding Down

Summer is winding down from the perspective that school starts this week (Friday) for Kate and Lincoln.  I began summer with a bit of dread, wondering how I was going to find the balance between my two oldest kids (one who likes to be very busy every day and the other who would rather stay home) plus a very active toddler and a baby.  The summer actually went much better than I anticipated, we had our bad days, but for the most part, we all were able to really enjoy the summer and each other, for which I am very thankful.  This post is going to be pretty long as I try to document the past few weeks.

The kids love the swingset.  That’s nothing new, this particular morning the neighbors found it amusing that we were all outside and swinging at 8:15.  We have a house of early risers, most days Anya and Creighton are up around 6-6:30 and Kate and Lincoln are usually up by 7:15.  I actually made them stay inside that long.  Despite all this, I know that the morning school routine is going to be an unpleasant adjustment.  :)

Creighton loves to play with the figures from Lincoln’s Angry Birds Game.  You never know where one might show up. (Corn Casserole Bowl, the lip of the lamp, behind the picture frame, in the milk jug)

These two are starting to get along pretty well, which is great news since it will be just the two of them at home together.

We spent a fun day with Alissa and her girls at the farm.  The kids had a blast with all the animals and the lake/beach area to swim in.  Creighton told Mike when he got home that “We got to go to the ocean today.”  :)  Creigh even ate some dog food with JoJo.  I’m pretty sure he made Alissa wish she had a boy or two.  ;)

Lastly, we spent the weekend in Minnesota visiting our friends, Russ & Beth.  Thank you for your patience with our circus and your hospitality!

A visit with U. Harold and Kate and Lincoln slept in sleeping bags for the weekend.  One time when I walked by, Lincoln was sprawled across Kate.  I thought for sure I’d hear about it, but nobody said a word.  :)
